Paula’s story

My passion and love of health and wellbeing began at a young age, after watching my beloved grandmother pass away after a fight with cancer. I realised at that young age that the most valuable possession we have in life is our health. I developed a deep desire to learn about the human body and mind. I knew I wanted to do something that would help to make a positive difference in people’s lives and help relieve suffering. I qualified as a psychiatric nurse in 2000, and travelled and worked abroad in Australia. It was here that I began to see the bigger picture of health the missing puzzle pieces in our current medical systems. Our medical system treats acute symptoms and conditions in a pragmatic and effective way, but on the flip side there is a huge piece missing when it comes to chronic illness management these people are the ones we see presenting over and over again with symptoms, or progression of their illness. We often refer to this as the ‘revolving door’ of healthcare.

I began to aspire to help people to gain more control of their health before acute presentations, and hospitalisation is required, through understanding and treating the underlying pathology and signs that the body often exhibits to suggest imbalance; as well as promoting long term positive behavioural changes.

I deeply resonate with the with belief that our emotional and spiritual makeup always impacts our current state of health and wellbeing. Chinese medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person body, mind, spirit and emotions in the quest for optimal health and wellness. When I studied traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture I was hooked. It resonated with me, I knew I had found my life’s work!

Over the years of working as a TCM practitioner I have had a natural connection for working with women with fertility issues and people suffering with chronic pain. My understanding and knowledge of fertility was enhanced after my own struggles with fertility. I was diagnosed with a low ovarian reserve for my age, this news was devastating as anyone suffering with infertility will understand! I believe if it was not for the help and power of Chinese medicine and acupuncture that I would not have my adorable twins Amara & Ashton who were born in 2014. It is an amazing feeling to help someone who has struggled with infertility to finally become pregnant or someone with debilitating pain to become pain-free.

Paula Duffin Health & Wellness Clinic was set up to fulfil my dream of gathering the best holistic and conventional health and wellness approaches under one roof for the people of Wexford. I have experienced how rewarding it is to help those who thought there was no help or hope for them and there is nothing more rewarding than to help someone who has struggled for years to finally overcome their health problems and be able to enjoy life. I realise that I can transform the lives of the people I work with and I know that to be valued by those in my care is a true blessing. Being a Nurse, TCM practitioner and acupuncturist is not just a livelihood it’s a commitment to care and love. x
